At What Age Should I Start Training My Puppy?
The primary and most important time for puppy socialization is the first three months of life. Because the first three months are the period where sociability outweighs fears, this is the primary window of opportunity for puppies to adapt to new people, animals and experiences. For this reason the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviorist believes that it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated.

Why Train Early?Statistics state that only 1/3 of dogs stay with their original owners!
Of the dogs being relinquished the majority (47.7%) were between 5 months and 3 years of age, and 37.1% had been owned from 7 months to 1 year. Hopefully early, basic, humane training will help lower these statistics and make the human-animal bond more secure. And, it is good to know that it is never "too late" to start communicating with your dog! |
